Commitment

At The Potters Care Ltd, we are deeply committed to supporting individuals with autism, learning disabilities, and complex behavioural needs through a proactive, person-centred approach known as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

PBS is embedded across all our services—from supported living placements to outreach support—ensuring that every individual is empowered to live safely, independently, and with dignity

Our PBS Philosophy

We believe that behaviours which challenge are often expressions of unmet needs, distress, or environmental mismatch. Our PBS framework helps us understand these behaviours in context—working collaboratively with individuals, families, and professionals to develop meaningful, respectful support strategies.

Our approach is:
  • Person-centred– tailored to each individual’s goals, preferences, and strengths
  • Educational: focused on skill-building and long-term growth
  • Proactive: – preventing distress before it escalates
  • Respectful: – upholding dignity and human rights at every step
How We Deliver PBS

Our support staff are guided by experienced PBS Leads and Care Managers who ensure that every plan is thoughtfully designed and consistently implemented. We take time to understand each person’s life story, triggers, communication style, and aspirations—so that our care is not only effective, but deeply personal. See Our PBS Map

We don’t just respond to behaviours—we listen, learn, and adapt to support the whole person.
Reducing Restrictive Practices

We are committed to minimising restrictive interventions and promoting trauma-informed care. When restraint is unavoidable, we use the least restrictive methods and review them regularly to ensure they remain appropriate and ethical.

We proudly follow the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) principles, embedding them across all our settings to safeguard wellbeing and promote positive outcomes.

Staff Training & Development

Every member of our care team completes mandatory training aligned with the statutory Care Certificate, regardless of prior experience. We invest in a robust, multi-modal training programme to ensure consistent, high-quality care:

  • Online learning platforms
  • On-site supervision and observation
  • Shadowing and mentoring
  • PBS-led workshops and spotlight briefings
  • Structured induction programmes
  • Classroom-based sessions and external qualifications

We believe that well-trained staff are the foundation of safe, compassionate care—and we’re proud to support their growth.

Use of Agency Staff

To maintain continuity and build trusting relationships, The Potters Care Ltd is committed to using only in-house care staff. This ensures that individuals are supported by familiar, well-trained teams who understand their needs and preferences.

Our Support Models

Model 1: Home Outreach

We work closely with families to provide tailored support within the home environment—especially for individuals affected by autism and learning disabilities.

    Our outreach model includes:
  • Comprehensive assessments of needs and circumstances
  • Collaboration with parents, schools, and day services
  • Family involvement in recruitment, transition, and care planning
  • Reflective practice sessions for staff to share insights and refine strategies
  • Investigating behaviours to understand root causes and promote improvement

Effective support begins with listening—to the individual, their family, and their lived experience.

Model 2: Supported Living

We recognise the critical role of environment in shaping wellbeing and behaviour. Our supported living placements are designed to be safe, adaptable, and empowering. Key features include:

  • Sourcing and modifying properties to meet mobility and sensory needs
  • Supporting transitions from family homes, schools, hospitals, or other placements
  • Conducting thorough assessments to match individuals with suitable accommodation and staff
  • Collaborating with families and professionals (e.g. Occupational Therapists) for tailored adaptations
  • Structured transition planning, PBS-aligned induction, and ongoing supervision
  • Consistent staffing to ensure familiarity with individual behaviours, triggers, and communication styles
At The Potters Care Ltd, we strive to create environments where individuals can thrive—not just survive.
